BAKERY LORRAINE

Handmade with care. Attention to detail. And, simply delicious. Bakery Lorraine is serving up plate perfection for breakfast, lunch and everything in between. Founders Jeremy and Anne met while working for Thomas Keller at Bouchon Bakery in the Napa Valley. They honed their skills in different kitchens around the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to San Antonio in the summer of 2010. In 2011, they met entrepreneur Charlie Biedenharn who joined them in forming Bakery Lorraine. And, they’ve been baking together ever since. Every item that they put out is handmade with the utmost care and attention to detail. Each ingredient is treated with the proper respect and thoughtfulness it deserves—from the miller’s flour to the dairy farmer’s eggs and butter. The result is simply delicious. Visit their location at the historic Pearl for casual and inviting indoor and outdoor seating for breakfast and lunch offerings, and a full bakery and coffee / tea bar.

Please note that Bakery Lorraine is currently offering takeout, curbside pick-up and delivery orders.

SCHILO’S

Cafés, Coffee & Bakeries

Starting as a saloon in Beeville, TX in the late 1800s, the Schilo family moved to the big booming city of San Antonio in 1914. In 1917, Mama Schilo started serving some of her famous recipes like split pea soup, potato pancakes, homemade meatloaf, the list goes on… We believe this was in anticipation of prohibition which arrived a few short years later. Due to their innovation and foresight, they were able to successfully shift from being a strict saloon to a reputable restaurant in a few short years. Adding a homemade root beer helped get them through those dry years and their unwavering German work ethic helped them stay in business through hard times like the Great Depression and World War II. Walking through the front doors of the restaurant that was originally constructed as a currency exchange bank, is like walking back in time. Which is why it is certain to be on any local’s “must-do” list. And, fortunately real beer has been back on the menu for a long time!
